Any personal trainer knows how many people put fitness at the top of their list in the new year. If you Google New Year’s Resolutions you’ll likely get results relating to getting in better shape, losing weight and feeling better. Everyone wants to look their best and for some reason the New Year is the perfect time to begin a new promise to yourself to succeed with this quest.
Often you’ll see advertisements for deals and/or perks to encourage those with personal quests to join them to accomplish whatever that may be. It can be overwhelming trying to pick the best place to go to achieve your goal but it can also be quite the task for the business owner to come up with the edge that will draw the new customers to them.
Personal trainers and gyms are all too aware of people’s goals at this time of the year and the influx of marketing can just be overwhelming. Equipment and facility aside, a coordinator or trainer can easily appeal to these fitness go-getter’s by creating an event to give a taste of what they offer to a group of those interested. This way they can show people what they are all about, offer a personal approach and then get the commitment from people who are striving to get fit!
Reasons to have an event…
- Explore: People like to see/get a feel for what is offered
- Personalize: Show the consumer you can meet their needs & skill level, be personal
- Motivate: Let people see they are not alone and encourage connections
- Encourage: Let people bring others interested and increase their drive
- Promote: This is your chance to sell yourself/business in a group atmosphere that amplifies what makes you the best choice

We Are Smack In The Middle Of The Winter Blues
The holiday decorations have been put back in storage for another year and the holiday chaos has lifted. As a whole, we are back to work/ life in general.
The next holiday isn’t for a few months, the weather is at its most bitter and the next big thing to get excited for isn’t for quite some time. As a society, we have noticed that this impacts us; our moods, our motivation, our habits, etc.
The winter blues can impact people in many different ways. Some of us may go into hibernation mode, while others may feel the impact every now and then. Some get hit hard. While experiencing the winter blues, it’s easy to stray away from the things you normally do that fulfill your life and make you happy.
It is common for us to notice these patterns and recognize our mental, physical and emotional reactions to the winter blues. Acknowledging it however, doesn’t prevent it.
Break The Cycle!
The opportunity to break out of your own winter blues patterns; mental, physical, emotional or some combination of the three, isn’t always available, especially at an affordable price close to home. Creating options your friends and family can join in on will create the opportunity to break the cycle!
Create The Opportunity!
Kick the winter blues with options to stay active & have fun! Keeping in mind new year’s resolutions, spark interest with your friends by planning a few things that you want to do and extend an invitation to them.
5 Parties To Have From Jan To April!
- Go Running – Get a group together for a run…great way to spice up girls night
- Tobogganing Jams – Fitness and fun together, can be for just the adults or kids too
- Work Out – Grab A Fitness DVD & have a few friends over. Follow it up with smoothies
- Pamper each other – a mini spa get together; paint each other’s nails or create face masks
- Swap recipes – Make them as a group, taste everyone’s and share the recipe
Smiling Is Contagious
Give your friends and family the opportunity to kick the winter blues by planning a few great activities that are going to get them to forget it’s February. They may even start planning a few activities of their own to keep the fun alive…. after all studies show that smiling is contagious!
Once again I’ve been on a vacation where I’ve seen all the gorgeous bods around the pool and once again I have the goal of getting into better shape for the New Year. Problem is, I’ve made this promise to myself in the past and while I usually will attend the fitness club for the first few weeks of January with great intentions, that’s where it ends.
My many excuses:
- I’m bored
- The gym is overcrowded
- It’s cold/nasty outside and can’t be bothered going out
- I don’t have the time
- It costs too much
- I overdo it and get sore and tired
- Everyone else looks great at the gym
- I own great exercise equipment so I will use it at home
I have tried to analyze what would work to keep my plan of getting fit alive. Since working out does not seem to be a ‘fun’ thing for me, I need to find a reason to keep it interesting and I need a ‘no excuses’ option…
BAM! I came up with a great option to change things up and encourage success! Why not get a few of my friends together who also have the same dilemma (imagine that) and hire a personal trainer to come into my home on a regular basis. Between the group of us we have enough equipment to make this happen such as an elliptical, balance ball, stepper, exercise bands, yoga mats, free weights and a great sound system.
Here’s why my plan will work:
- Personal Trainers are consistent and very flexible with appointments
- They educate and motivate you on an individual basis
- They formulate individualized and effective workouts
- Provide close supervision to avoid injury
- Cost effective exercise when sharing the fee
- Friends keep you accountable but are supportive and encouraging
- Having a girls club will be focused fun
The key for many when wanting to succeed with New Year’s Resolutions is determining what you find helpful/supportive and building that buzz around you. If you’re like me then start now. I’m making an Eventastic.com invite with lots of fun exercise pics and my personal video inviting my choice friends to join in on my great plan. I’ve divided the cost of the Personal Trainer among those invited so they can simply pay right on the invite site and begin their commitment. I even uploaded the fitness schedule for everyone to access.
Good luck with your ‘Get Fit Resolution‘!
