Even after all these years, I very clearly remember my Frosh Week at university being such an exciting time. What a thrill knowing you are starting a new chapter in your life and beginning a new academic year at a university or college where you’ll be introduced to new information, concepts, people and skills.
Frosh Week or Orientation Week is a time where new students get to know their campus, meet multitudes of other students, firm up their class schedules and often party like rock stars. Orientation Teams will have reviewed plans and ideas of school clubs and organizations wanting to coordinate events all across campus to make this first week for new students welcoming, helpful, supportive, fun, encouraging and informative. Whew!
Most times when attending all the campus events you don’t realize how much work and organization goes into the planning in order to meet the school’s orientation objectives.
– Motivating students to prepare for first year
– Encouraging connections with those with similar interests
– Teaching how to navigate the environment
– Informing newbies of available options
– Creating a sense of community
These are just some of the usual objectives proposed by school administration.
