Happy Holidays…oh and Happy Birthday….
If you or a loved one has a birthday during the holiday season I’m sure you have heard time and time again…”Wow… That’s terrible! You must get ripped off.”
It can be easy to make a holiday birthday a separate celebration with just a little effort and a few easy tips, you can create a truly special birthday celebration!
Tip #1 – Don’t have a holiday themed birthday party! You would never wrap a Christmas present in birthday wrapping paper, or give a birthday card to someone for Christmas would you? So… you can see why it is not right to give birthday wishes tied up in a Christmas bow! I’m not suggesting that the Christmas tree needs to come down for the day but I’m saying that you can still, and should, bring in coloured balloons and birthday themed cake ignoring the holiday decor in the background.
Tip #2 – Make a holiday birthday a true birthday by simply treating it like one! Make sure the birthday present is wrapped in birthday paper and there is a birthday card to go with it. No matter what the age of the birthday person, believe me – a December baby- when I say that they enjoy having the two celebrations separated.
Tip #3- Take the party elsewhere! The party doesn’t have to be inside where all the decorations are. Ever think about ski parties, indoor go-karting, indoor trampoline, theater outing or indoor pool party or spa day? If you put your mind to it, there are tons of options to create a unique birthday party over the holidays.
Tip # 4 – What about a half birthday? One option for December birthdays is to move the birthday bash to a date outside the holiday season. Many people travel for the holidays, and it’s not uncommon that some close family and friends are not around to celebrate. This is a discussion that should happen with the birthday boy or girl and a different date agreed upon.
It really doesn’t take much to keep a holiday season birthday a true birthday celebration. Birthday decor with balloons and streamers for a day is not going to hurt your holiday stair garland. Birthday themed cake/dessert might be a welcomed treat for those attending the birthday party who have been attending multiple Christmas parties with holiday cookies and cakes. Is that cheeseburger on the barbecue in December sounding good?
Simplify the planning and organization by creating an event on Eventastic.
Simply create your event, add the details, share with friends and family and track all the RSVP’s, coordinate a group gift, use the comments to track any food allergies and if its a paid outing, collect monies digitally. You can even arrange to share all the photos from the event with all the attendees!
Everyone loves to have their birthday recognized.
No one has a choice in their birth date, so let’s keep the birthday celebration birthday themed and Christmas a separate event and avoid the whole ‘ripped off’ birthday feeling. Life is too short to miss out on a good old birthday party!
